Country Club of Buffalo Staff Update

CCB Team,

We just wanted to keep you up to date with what the different departments have been working on during the shutdown.  We can’t wait to have you back to work, but until then you can keep up with CCB news every Friday.  Will


Clubhouse (Will Norem):

The Board has a conference call each Monday to discuss club operations.  They have yet to set a date for any services to be reinstated.  This decision is made out of an abundance of caution for the staff and membership.  #1 priority remains everyone’s health and well-being.

We all owe a big thank you to CCB’s Essential staff.  A select few team members from Grounds, Maintenance, Golf and Admin have been here working even while the club is closed.

Accounting/CFO (Kathy Cipresso, CPA, CGMA, CCM):

While it has been a quiet week for most of the Club, your Accounting team has continued to come in on staggered shifts and/or working solo in their offices to make sure our employees and vendors get paid and everyone is kept informed. A BIG thank you to Trish, Tina and Lori.

One method CCB has been communicating with you our employees is through short text messages sent to your cell phone if you have provided the club with a valid cell number.  We are able to quickly inform you of recent decisions being taken at the Club through these messages.  If you are not getting these messages and would like to be added please send an email message to Lori at or leave a VM message at 716-250-2657.

Another method we are communicating with employees is the Club’s public website (  Click on menu and then staff information. Our President Mr. Walter has been sharing his weekly letters to the membership with our employees as well in an effort to keep everyone informed as it relates to CCB.  We encourage you to check the website frequently for updates, but especially Mondays and Fridays as both the Board and Management are meeting weekly and often have updates then.

We are diligently evaluating what public programs the Federal government has offered that the Club is eligible for and will continue to update you as we know more.

Grounds (Anthony Tosh):

We are currently operating at a minimal staffing level in order to ensure the safety of all staff members and their families. We are keeping up with all mowing and property maintenance at the most basic level so that we can be sufficiently prepared for this upcoming golf season.

We will be conducting periodic phone calls with all grounds staff to ensure their continued well-being and provide any departmental updates.

Culinary Operations (Chef Piazza, CEC):

Hello Team, 

Just wanted to drop you all a quick note and let you know that I truly miss each one of you every day. I know I spoke to you this past week and just wanted to share that again.

As we spoke the BOG has no immediate plans to do any food service at this time. I had taken the liberty to write a few menu’s in advance just in case they went the other way. On the Easter to go I had a section of pickup items that included “Butcher Shop” items…. Our famous Prime Steak with our REALLY famous CCB steak seasoning were part of it….

As I am writing this, I am also in contact with the Western NY Food Bank. I will be dropping off some stuff today for the community.

As the BOG and DH meet weekly, I will be sure to keep in contact to communicate all that is happening.

Please start thinking about ideas for the MAY a la cart Menu, I am sure you all have some time to do some R&D… feel free to take a pic/ recipe and we can certainly make these items features on the May Menu.

Dear Members:

We begin by extending best wishes to all as we all navigate the daily uncertainty of the current environment.  There is light in this tunnel. A light that shines as we look out for one another, for our members and for our employees, alike.  This light is our tradition.   This light has not flickered in the last 131 years.


In this ever changing environment, we continue to receive information from multiple sources and monitor developments that may impact the Country Club of Buffalo.  The information and guidance being received and reviewed has been most helpful, and we remain focused on the health and wellbeing of our employees and our members.


Since our last communication, based on information and guidance received by the Club, we:

  1. Are developing and implementing plans for the maintenance of the golf course, as our most treasured and valued asset.
  2. Are continuing to provide essential maintenance and security to all of our buildings. 
  3. Are continuing to provide necessary administrative functions.


And, we are meeting as a Board (albeit remotely or with strict social distancing rules) and addressing all matters related to the Club, its operations, new member considerations, calendar of events and planning for the return of our members and employees. The budget process is ongoing and the next budget will be in place in the normal course for the financial stability of the Club, particularly during these uncertain times.


We are grateful to all of our employees for their dedication as they perform services for the Club remotely, or under the guidelines from the public health authorities.

You may have seen the recent announcement from the New York Golf Association (NYSGA). And, you may have seen certain clarifications provided by the Governor’s office and from the Empire State Development Corporation regarding public parks and certain golf courses being open. To avoid any misunderstanding from the recent announcements, in the exercise of an abundance of caution, the Club remains closed. We continue to believe and to recommend that now is not the time for members to visit or to use the Club and its facilities. 


We will continue to share updates and we look forward to reestablishing member services as soon as the directives from New York State and other circumstances will allow.
